Frequently Asked Questions

In 2023, the festival moved its primary “Grand Tasting” operations to Pier 76 on the Hudson River. This functional shift provided a larger, open-air environment to accommodate thousands of guests. The event serves as the festival’s centerpiece, featuring hundreds of winemakers and distillers alongside dozens of New York City’s best restaurants.

Chefs must create dishes that are both high-impact and easy to serve quickly. A functional festival dish is typically a “one-bite” or “small-plate” item that can be assembled in seconds to avoid a logistical bottleneck at the booth. Successful examples include gourmet sliders, specialized tacos, or individual pasta nests that travel well from the prep station to the guest’s hand.

The Grand Tasting is a requirement for anyone looking to sample a broad cross-section of the industry. It includes:

  • Chef Demonstrations: Famous culinary stars provide live “how-to” sessions on outdoor stages.

  • Brand Activations: Major food and beverage brands create immersive “mini-restaurants” to showcase new products.

  • Direct Interaction: Unlike a standard restaurant visit, guests can speak directly with the chefs and creators behind the food.

The festival is a massive driver of digital content. Guests frequently post photos of “Instagrammable” dishes, which creates a frictionless marketing loop for the participating restaurants. A restaurant that presents a visually stunning dish can see a significant “lift” in Google Maps searches and direct reservations in the weeks following the event.
